safety first
staff well-being
In our last blog we highlighted a scheme that we provide to our staff to support their mental well being, the BUPA Employee Assistance Programme. Happy staff are more productive, more loyal and natural advocates for our business. This is why we have grown so rapidly over the last couple of years.
our responsibility
This is not to say that we should take general health and safety for granted, quite the opposite. As our team grows, so does our responsibility in ensuring that they remain safe during work time. We were recently awarded the SMAS Worksafe accreditation, this is testimony to our commitment to health and safety in the workplace. This essential certificate demonstrates our capability in meeting the core criteria as set out by the Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP). It a recognised industry standard for health and safety.
what health and safety means to our staff
Of course, demonstrating to a recognised body that we tick all the right boxes is essential when we are looking to win new contracts but what does this actually mean to the health and safety of our staff?
All our operatives are provided with practical on site training that includes a full site induction and BoxerFM induction. All new starters are required to complete a number of training modules including:
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
Asbestos awareness
Environmental awareness
Manual handling
Steps and ladder training (where required)
Lone working
Some staff are also required to complete First Aid training as well as Fire Marshall training.
ongoing training
We understand that training needs to be ongoing, and we carry out regular on site training, which include tool box talks around:
Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS)
Health and Safety in the workplace
Accident reporting
As staff progress through the ranks and become Managers, we arrange for formal training such as Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). IOSH is the Chartered body and leading membership organisation for health and safety professionals. They provide certified training courses to enhance the awareness, knowledge and skills that our Managers require.
not just health and safety
Safety definitely comes first for our staff but we also want to support our team with their Continuing Professional Development (CPD). As well as essential health and safety training, we also provide general support with our employees’ development around man management and time management skills as well as commercial awareness and business acumen.
