10 years on

10+years+on

Just before COVID-19 struck we were about to celebrate 10 years of BoxerFM. We then had to quickly make some difficult business decisions and furlough some of our team. Now that we are starting to get back to normal again, we thought it was time that we release this blog, albeit a little late!

Natural progression

For a company that has over 600 staff and is now recognised nationally for their facilities management a commercial cleaning expertise, it is hard to believe that we have only been trading for 10 years. Although we may have grown quickly, it actually feels like every major step that has been taken has been a natural progression both in the size of the client we work with as well as the number of staff we now employ. One thing that has always remained through this is our company values and ethos, something we are very proud of.

To mark the 10 year of BoxerFM we interviewed the Managing Director, Joe Broadway, to gain a little insight into the success and his personal views of the business. Here are his words…

As Boxer FM celebrate 10 years in business what do you feel most grateful for?

“The honesty, commitment and loyalty from Boxer Colleagues.”

What big changes have you experienced recently and what the future plans?

“Changing from a regional to a national service provider in 2019 was the biggest step we have made and has been a huge success.  But not without big challenges!"

Structuring the organisation to easily cope with continued significant growth is the next challenge.  Department changes and reorganisation is happening throughout 2020.”

How can you say a process is effective and/or how do you measure success?

“A process is successful if it can seamlessly integrate and even compliment other processes within both the same field and the wider business as a whole.  All processes should work to improve efficiencies for individuals & the company by organising information and service provision.  If a process does this, then it is successful, if it doesn’t then we must work to find improvements.”

What 3 words best describe the company ethos?

“Dedicated, caring and ‘good-fun’”

What attracts customers and staff alike to Boxer FM? What makes you different and where do the strengths lie?

“The honest and simple approach in an industry which seems to enjoy over complicating things!  I feel this is both the same for employees and clients.  Boxer stresses the importance of human relationships and contact so that no client or employee feels neglected or isolated.  No matter where they are in the UK.”

What surprises you about your staff?

“Their willingness to develop and improve constantly.  Most staff are always open to suggestions and subtle changes in the approach to work in order to keep things improving, fresh and interesting.”

What’s one of the best decisions you’ve ever made?

“In 2010 I got the idea that I could position myself to buy Boxer Facilities Management, in the summer that year I decided that I should.  By February 2012 I had completed the purchase of the organisation and prepared the business for the future!”

What glimpse of wisdom do you provide new employees with?

“Don’t assume that anything cannot be improved.  There will always be a better/safer/quicker way of doing something and just because we have ‘always’ done something doesn’t mean we always should.”

What are some of the challenges you face in the future/the coming 10 years?

“Making sure that all aspects of the business function develops and individuals grow at the same rate as the economic growth as the business without losing our personality and ethos.  Becoming bigger will make us question the importance of our personal and caring approach to employees and clients but we must stay true to our long-standing beliefs.”
